About the role
Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, the Head of Revenue Accounting and Order-to-Cash will serve as a strategic thought partner to executive leadership and key cross-functional stakeholders, with end-to-end responsibility for the strategy, governance, operating model, and performance of MongoDB’s revenue accounting and order-to-cash ecosystem. This is a rare opportunity to shape the revenue infrastructure of a high-growth, publicly traded technology company as it scales. This leader will oversee Revenue Accounting Operations, Technical Revenue Accounting, and Order-to-Cash, and serve as the company’s senior authority on ASC 606 and U.S. GAAP revenue recognition in a business defined by consumption-based and hybrid cloud commercial models. They will advise on complex, non-standard arrangements and partner across Sales, Sales Operations, Deal Strategy, Legal, Product, FP&A, and IT to strengthen the broader quote-to-cash ecosystem and support scalable growth through strong controls, sound judgment, efficient processes, and modern systems. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role with responsibility for building and developing a global organization while driving transformation across people, process, and systems. The role will modernize infrastructure, automation, and controllership, translate complex accounting matters into clear business decisions for senior leadership and external auditors, and help shape a disciplined, scalable roadmap for MongoDB’s next phase of growth. Key Responsibilities - Set the strategic vision and operating model for Revenue Accounting Operations, Technical Revenue, and Order-to-Cash—building the maturity, scalability, and rigor needed to support MongoDB's next stage of growth; - Lead and develop senior leaders across the function, with accountability for organizational design, location strategy, talent development, succession planning, and cross-functional execution - Own the company's technical revenue accounting strategy—including policy development, complex contract analysis, and revenue recognition conclusions under ASC 606 - Strategically partner with and influence Product, Sales, and Deal Strategy on new products, pricing and packaging, and emerging revenue models - Own end-to-end oversight of the order-to-cash lifecycle—spanning billing, collections, and revenue recognition—including process design, controls, and cross-functional handoffs - Lead the revenue close operating model, with governance over reconciliations, analytics, controls, reporting quality, and predictable execution across monthly and quarterly cycles - Lead transformation initiatives by partnering with IT to to define and execute the roadmap for revenue systems, data, automation, and AI-enabled workflows across the revenue and order-to-cash ecosystem - Hire, develop, and retain a high-performing global organization and create scalable ways of working that can support future growth, complexity, and organizational change Qualifications - 15+ years of progressive leadership experience across revenue accounting operations, technical revenue, order-to-cash, controllership, or adjacent finance functions - Big 4 background and meaningful time in a public company, high-growth SaaS, software, cloud, or technology environment - Deep expertise in ASC 606, technical revenue accounting, including complex contract structures, variable consideration, and policy interpretation in evolving commercial environments - Strong command of end-to-end order-to-cash processes and cross-functional interdependencies across Sales, Deal Strategy, Legal, Billing, Collections, Accounting, FP&A, and IT - Demonstrated success improving revenue and order-to-cash processes through automation, systems, data quality, operating cadence, and cross-functional governance, with experience across ERP, CRM, CPQ, billing, revenue automation, reporting, and AI-enabled workflow tools - Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders, simplify complex issues, make sound decisions in fast-moving environments, and translate technical and operational issues into clear executive recommendations - Strong people leadership skills, including experience hiring, developing, and retaining senior talent - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA strongly preferred Preferred Experience - Experience supporting global scale with increasing business complexity, including consumption-based or hybrid-cloud revenue models - Experience leading organizational change and modernizing order-to-cash infrastructure during periods of rapid growth or transformation - Experience evaluating, piloting, and scaling AI use cases within finance operations to improve productivity, decision support, controls, or service delivery What does success look like - Revenue and order-to-cash processes are reliable, scalable, and increasingly automated - Technical revenue guidance is timely, practical, and trusted by Finance and go-to-market leaders - Cross-functional teams can move faster on complex deals because decision rights, processes, and tradeoffs are clear - Revenue close, controls, and reporting are predictable, well-governed, and audit-ready - The function has strong leadership depth, better operating mechanisms, and a roadmap that supports future scale - The company has better visibility into revenue performance, execution risk, and operational opportunities across the end-to-end revenue lifecycle - The team is using AI and automation in practical, well-governed ways to eliminate low-value manual work, increase capacity, and surface meaningful process improvements About MongoDB MongoDB is built for change, empowering our customers and our people to innovate at the speed of the market. Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of MongoDB’s total compensation and benefits package.
