Before founding Sierra, Clay spent 18 years at Google, where he most recently led Google Labs. Earlier, he started and led Google’s AR/VR effort, Project Starline, and Google Lens. Before that, Clay led the product and design teams for Google Workspace. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Lead recruiting across Japan, supporting both technical and non-technical hiring, including Engineering, Product Management, Sales, G&A, and leadership roles. - Build and develop a high-performing recruiting team while fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. - Partner closely with senior leaders to translate business priorities into scalable hiring strategies and market plans. - Serve as a trusted advisor on the Japan talent market, providing insights on the competitive landscape, compensation trends, hiring strategies, and organizational design. - Develop innovative sourcing strategies to attract exceptional talent. - Personally recruit and close senior and business-critical hires when needed. - Continuously improve recruiting operations, interview quality, and candidate experience while ensuring hiring decisions remain thoughtful, efficient, and consistent. - Partner cross-functionally with People, Compensation, Immigration, and Recruiting Operations to support the continued growth of our Japan business. - Use recruiting data and market insights to influence hiring priorities, capacity planning, and long-term workforce strategy. WHAT YOU’LL BRING - 10+ years of recruiting experience, including experience leading recruiting teams in Japan. - Experience hiring across both technical and business functions within high-growth technology companies. - Deep understanding of the Japan talent market, including experience building engineering and enterprise sales organizations. - Strong people leadership skills with a track record of coaching and developing recruiters. - Experience partnering directly with executives and senior hiring managers on organizational growth and talent strategy. - Excellent judgment, prioritization, and problem-solving skills in fast-changing environments. - Passion for delivering an exceptional candidate and hiring manager experience. - Native fluency in Japanese and strong written and verbal English communication, with the ability to influence and build trust across global and local stakeholders.
